Samsung wasted the chance to bring something cool with their curved display technology (Galaxy Round)

The mobile tech world has been talking for over a year about the curved displays manufacturers have been working on & the techies imaginations went wild. Well with Samsung & LG having announced that they had perfected the technology to mass produce such a display only time would tell who would be first to release a device using said display.

Today is that day as Samsung has just announced the Galaxy Round featuring a 5.7″ 1080p CURVED OLED display (other specs below)
The display curves in a very odd way that I’m sure nobody expected, you see it curves from side to side so the entire phone (front and back) curves the same way the back of the HTC ONE does.
The usefulness of this application of the curved display seems very limited & to us seems like Samsung cheaped out & were more concerned with releasing a device with curved display first than actually putting some design effort into it.
Samsung states that it emphasizes the view while flipping through home screens. They have also incorporated a lock screen that is activated when the device is laying on a table you can press down on one side of the device making it tilt forward to reveal the time, weather, alarm, notifications, ect (seen in video below) & well that’s about it.

It’s still early & we will give Samsung the benefit of the doubt that this design will prove to be more well thought out than it looks right now but it’s not looking good in our opinion. The balls in your court Samsung so prove us wrong. The specs of the Galaxy Round are however very impressive & it will be a solid device, but one that comes with a hefty price tag at just over $1,000. It’s unknown if the device will be available in North America at this time, but we’d love to know if the Round interests you?

5.7″ 1080p CURVED OLED display

Galaxy S4 update hitting the phone for Telus & Koodo customers

The Galaxy S4 for Telus/Koodo (possibly Bell, Virgin, Rogers & Fido as well) is now receiving a nice update that brings many tweaks to the amazing device, including the ability to move apps to the SD Card.

This is good news for users who own the 16Gb version of the Galaxy S4, which ships with only 9.15GB of user accessible storage space. This update alleviates this storage crunch by letting users move apps to the SD card. It also slightly increases available storage to 9.23GB.

Besides the app to SD card feature, this new firmware also includes the following:

-Stability & performance upgrades
-slight increase of internal storage
-New Camera firmware
-Smearing issue has been fixed (Purple effect while scrolling)
-Smart Pause Toggle
-Move Apps to SD Card
-HDR Video (Can record HDR video)
-Semi-transparent status bar
New Icons in Settings
Secure boot status (About Phone)
-Increase legibility (Display) (New feature)

Galaxy S4 owners can update their handset using Samsung Kies software or wait for the update to arrive over the air.

*Update – After moving what I can I gained a full 1gb of space on my internal storage which is awesome IMO.
Update took about 45 minutes to complete so make sure you have the time. It’s also just over 300mb in size so have the space available to download before install.

I’m sure Bell & Rogers & their sister companies are also receiving this great update as well, but if someone could confirm this we’d really appreciate it. Thanks.

Have you received the update, how do you like it & do you notice a performance boost?

Samsung sold 20 million S4’s in Only 2 months, has me thinking stock price fixing

We all heard recently that the Galaxy S4 wasn’t selling well, & while I didn’t believe it what so ever others sure did as the stock fell quite a bit. Now we’re getting the #s from Samsung & it looks like it has become the fastest selling smartphone ever selling over 20 million units in only 2 months.
Why does this have me thinking stocks are being fixed? Well this is exactly what happened with the BlackBerry stock & the Z10 when it was first released. The Z10 was released & analyst said that it wasn’t selling well even though it was hard to even get your hands on at first & stock prices took a dive (this had me thinking how they were so off if that’s these analyst’s job) Then shortly after the actual #s came out & low and behold they were much better than the #s that Analyst had projected & stocks rose.
Now we have the Galaxy S4 & analyst made claims once again that the Galaxy S4 wasn’t selling well & stock prices dropped. Now we are hearing the true #’s & again they are not what the analysts predicted at all, in fact the Galaxy S4 is the fastest selling smartphone EVER.

So it seems to me that these analysts have found themselves a way to make some big cash fast by fixing the stock prices by talking down these companies new devices even though they know they are selling very well (I mean how can’t they if I know just from frequenting the net on mobile tech forums & blogs & checking out the comment sections). Then the price of said stock drops they buy the stock knowing all the time the device is selling like mad & a week or 2 later the official #’s come out & they are much higher than they claimed thus making the stock prices climb again & making these analyst’s a rather hefty amount when they sell the stock after the rise in price.

See there is nothing in the world that is as easy to do this with as smartphones because of the # of ppl who purchase these brand new devices as soon as they are released & I believe these analysts have found just that and are raking in the cash doing so. I’d like to see how these analysts live & I guarantee none of them are struggling & are doing quite well.
What do you guys think am I on to something or do I just question things way too much in this world lol. Let us know in the comment section below.

Samsung beginning to roll out an update to fix limited storage space on Galaxy S4

Samsung is said to have started rolling out an update to one model of the Galaxy S4 with more models to come that will fix the issue of limited internal storage space on the S4.

How will this be done?
Well it looks like they are making it so the device will allow the transfer of apps to your SD Card, in a pre Jelly Bean-esc kind of way. So basically you can now turn your 16gb model into 80gb device with a 64gb card.
This in my mind makes the Galaxy S4 the perfect device, the first ever perfect device ever built. I think Samsung will now easily reach the 100 million Galaxy S4 sold # quite quickly.

Well will this new news change your mind about purchasing a Galaxy S4, or are you a present owner doing backflips off the walls right now like myself?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition

Yesterday at Google I/O there wasn’t much in the way of product announcements, however there was one very interesting one. A collaboration of sorts with the #1 Android device maker Samsung. The New Galaxy S4 with a twist that should interest those who love a Nexus style Android experience.
The hardware is staying exactly the same as that in the original model, but the software will be a pure vanilla Android experience. So you lose all the features the device is known for, but that might not be as bad as it may seem. Samsung has received some flak over just how much internal storage said features takes up in the 16gb device. With all those features packed in leaves the user with around 8gb of storage from the get go. The Google Edition should leave users with around 14gb of storage.
Another great advantage would be in the update department where Google stated that the device will always be updated promptly with the latest version of Android.

If the device sounds appealing to you then you’ll want to check out the Google Playstore starting on the 26th. That’s when the device will become available & will sell for $649 in the US which is where it will first be made available with other markets to follow.

So what do you guys think of this device, is it worth the money considering it sells for the same as the feature packed model?
Do you care about the features of the S4 or is it the hardware  that draws your attention?

Samsung Galaxy S4 has already sold over 6 million units & Pure Android Galaxy S4 Perhaps

Samsung had predicted they would sell 100 million units of the Galaxy S4 which seemed like it might be a little presumptuous if anything. Well maybe not as the newest flagship device has already passed the 6 million units sold mark in the very short time it’s been available according to a Samsung insider.

Still you might be thinking to yourself “ya but 100 million, I don’t know if that many ppl want a device with Samsung’s Touchwiz UI”, & you just might be right. Well here’s another twist to the story, a Samsung Galaxy S4 with a vanilla Android experience.
That’s right a Nexus style experience on the Galaxy S4 hardware. According to rumours going around at Google I/O Google & Samsung will announce just that at the event that begins today at 12pm sharp. If you can’t be at the event but you’d like to watch the live stream of the event you can do so here & find out for yourself if this rumour is true.
This would be great to have that kick ass hardware with a Nexus style/vanilla Android experience, it sure would leave the user with a much more acceptable amount of internal storage space albeit without all Samsung’s cool features.

Remember we heard talk before the Nexus 4 came out that possibly 5 companies would make Nexus devices? Well maybe it still could be true & we could very well see more than 1 vanilla Android phone this year.

What do you guys think, would you love to see a Galaxy S4 with vanilla Android & perhaps a few more phones with pure Android?
Let us know in the comments section below, we’d love to hear from you guys.

Samsung Galaxy S2X on Koodo/Telus getting Jelly Bean 4.1

We have an early report that the Samsung Galaxy S2X with Telus & Koodo have started getting Jelly Bean 4.1. So connect your phone to Samsung’s Kies Software on your PC and get checking to see if this is true. If so please comment and let us know that this is not a hoax, Thanks.

Huge leak of the Galaxy S4, or is it?

With only 3 days to go till Samsung unveils the “Next Big Thing”, the Galaxy S4 these photos have surfaced. The poster claims that this is the Galaxy S4 in all its glory & personally I have mixed feelings. Some around the net are claiming this looks like the Galaxy Note 2 & that’s all that it is. Some are claiming it’s some knock off Samsung product, Both I’m not too sure about. See rumours had the Galaxy S4 being a combination of metal & plastic with the majority of the device being the plastic & a metal ring around the device. The photo below shows that they are showing off the ring around the device & if you have a Galaxy Note 2 like me you will know that that is definitely not the Galaxy Note 2.

Then in this next photo which some are saying looks like cheap plastic you can see if you look really close at the bottom of the phone that it looks alot different than the Note 2. I don’t know about you but to me it looks like an alligator skin finish under Samsung’s hyper glaze finish.

Now this could very well be a replacement back on a Galaxy Note 2 & perhaps a metal bumper style case wrapped around it, but it really has me thinking. Personally I love my Galaxy Note 2 but at the same time I hope Samsung hasn’t went with the exact same design this time around as the Galaxy S3 & Note 2.
Well what do you guys think, what do we have here?
Do you hope this is the Galaxy S4 or just a mis-identification situation? Let us know in the comments below.

Samsung Galaxy S4 coming next month?

Rumour has it that Samsung will release the highly anticipated Galaxy S4 at an unpacked event on March 15th. Sammobile brought these rumours to the table & stated they were given the info from their “trusted insider”. It could be a good indication that there is validity behind this rumour, but at the same time take it with a grain of salt.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is rumored to feature an Exynos 5 Octa (8-Core) CPU, Mali-T658 (8-Core) GPU, 4.99″ Super AMOLED Full HD Resolution Display, 2GB of RAM, 13 Megapixel Rear facing Camera capable of shooting 1080p Full HD Videos at 30FPS, 2 Megapixel front facing camera capable of shooting 720p HD Videos and running Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.

Well is there any of you waiting on the Next Big thing to be released from the Tech giant? Are you planing on upgrading from an S3, or is this your first venture towards a Samsung phone?
