Nexus devices receiving update to 4.4.2

image

Google had started releasing Android 4.4.1 last week to the Nexus 5 but it seems there was a voicemail issue that was found so they’ve quickly rectified the issue & are presently pushing 4.4.2. Reports claim the update is being pushed to all Nexus devices that recieved Android 4.4 officially so if you haven’t received it yet go into your Settings Menu – About Phone – System Updates – Then tap the Check Now Icon to see if the update has been pushed to you yet.
If you never recieved Android 4.4.1 don’t worry you’ll go straight to 4.4.2.

The update from 4.4 to 4.4.2 will bring Camera improvements you can see listed in the screen shot above as well as now having the ability to Zoom in HDR+ mode which is a great improvement in our eyes. Also we have noticed that the slight static that could be heard when volume was at its lowest but not off has been reduced greatly. Volume seems to have received a boost as certain notification sounds that were hard to hear seem loud & crisp now.

Have you noticed any other improvements in the 4.4.2 or 4.4.1 update? Let us know in the comments below.

The Nexus 5 has arrived in Canada!

image

The Nexus 5 has arrived in Canada, actually 30,000 Nexus 5’s have arrived in Canada are sitting snugly in LG’s Canadian warehouses set to be shipped to their next destination. Their next destination is to carriers (Bell, Telus, Koodo, Virgin, Rogers, Wind, Fido) across the great white north.

The LG employee who took this shot for us all to see says that 4,000 of the 30,000 are for western Canada while the remaining 26,000 will cover the Eastern end of Canada’s carriers. So if your on the Western side of Canada get your cash in hand & ready for the official launch because with only 4000 of this initial shipment coming to your area you may have a hard time tracking one down, especially if yoir looking specifically for the black or white model.

Its still unknown the exact launch date of the Nexus 5 but a possible hint from the pic below (from gatgety.co.il) seems to point towards the 5th of November, this could be the date it actually will be¬† available for purchase however only time will tell. This could also be the release of the N5 & Android 4.4 KK in Israel & we could see it sooner, let’s hope anyways.

image

Google does have a G+ livesteam later today which could be the date we’re all waiting for as well. So wow Google has really been playing with our emotions with this launch havent they. Im sure we’re not the only ones who will be happy when this is all over & we have the long awaited Nexus 5 in our hands & we can sleep soundly after getting our New Nexus & Android 4.4 KK fix.

Nexus 5 leaks once more before it’s officially announced

image

The glorious Nexus 5 Google ‘s most recent pure Android device seems to have leaked one more time in this video showing off its build which seems to be an earlier prototype since the Nexus logo we’ve seen in later builds isn’t present. The single hole through the glass where the earpiece is also looks very unfinished as does the grill in the front glass on the bottom left which all bring credence to this definitely not being a final build. It does give us an idea of what the phones design & materials used will look like & I personally am very happy that it looks like it will have the same soft touch material as the Nexus 7 2013 since it feels great in the hand & adds a great deal of grip compared to the glass or plastics & especially metals, plus it will match our Nexus 7 2013’s beautifully ūüėČ

Check out the video below from the leakster, we’d all like to thank them but sure wish they would have show a little more of Android 4.4 & not chrome so much

Could this be the Nexus 5 or a prototype of another Nexus?

image

This picture is now everywhere and it’s from the video Google released earlier today showing them putting up the kit kat Android guy which is supposedly the next version of Android 4.4. In the screenshot we see a guy holding what looks like a mix of the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 7 2013 and is definitely not a device we’ve seen before, Could this be the Nexus 5 or a prototype for it?
Did Google do this on purpose? Well we’re not sure they did as they have now taken down the video from YouTube which has us all questioning it’s being done purposely. If it is I’m so happy that it looks to be a 5″ display would be packed in there with the comparison of the Nexus 4. I just hope it’s 1080p full HD which would be amazing on a Nexus phone because it sure makes the Nexus 7 one incredible tablet.

What do you guys think, is it the Nexus 5?

New Nexus 7 2nd Gen 2013 hits the PlayStore in Canada

image

It’s a couple weeks now since the New Nexus 7 was launched & while it’s been available in Canada through retailers like Staples (where I purchased mine) & Future Shop (who needs to match their Web stock to actual stock so we don’t make a long drive for nothing) it’s now available to Canadians through the Google Play Store. The Wifi-only¬†16GB version of the tablet goes for $229, while the 32GB model will set you back $269. Both models are listed as in stock and shipping within 1-2 business days.

Those of us who couldn’t wait & grabbed it from retailers like Staples seem to have ended up paying an extra $20 for the 16gb model which cost us $249 + taxes. Still I can’t be too upset as its such an incredible tablet & IMO one of the best mobile devices ever put out, it’s well worth the money. If you haven’t grabbed one yet & are looking for a tablet or on the fence about upgrading from last year’s model I highly recommend grabbing the new model it’s fast, smooth, sleek &¬† stylish & we have a full review heading your way as soon as I can put it down long enough to write up a review & fit it into all the other reviews we have underway.

Have you already grabbed one, what do you think? I have yet to have any of the issues ppl are reporting, is anybody actually experiencing them?

Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition

image

Yesterday at Google I/O there wasn’t much in the way of product announcements, however there was one very interesting one. A collaboration of sorts with the #1 Android device maker Samsung. The New Galaxy S4 with a twist that should interest those who love a Nexus style Android experience.
The hardware is staying exactly the same as that in the original model, but the software will be a pure vanilla Android experience. So you lose all the features the device is known for, but that might not be as bad as it may seem. Samsung has received some flak over just how much internal storage said features takes up in the 16gb device. With all those features packed in leaves the user with around 8gb of storage from the get go. The Google Edition should leave users with around 14gb of storage.
Another great advantage would be in the update department where Google stated that the device will always be updated promptly with the latest version of Android.

If the device sounds appealing to you then you’ll want to check out the Google Playstore starting on the 26th. That’s when the device will become available & will sell for $649 in the US which is where it will first be made available with other markets to follow.

So what do you guys think of this device, is it worth the money considering it sells for the same as the feature packed model?
Do you care about the features of the S4 or is it the hardware  that draws your attention?
Let us know in the comments section below & stay tuned for more from Google I/O 2013.

Samsung Galaxy S4 has already sold over 6 million units & Pure Android Galaxy S4 Perhaps

image

Samsung had predicted they would sell 100 million units of the Galaxy S4 which seemed like it might be a little presumptuous if anything. Well maybe not as the newest flagship device has already passed the 6 million units sold mark in the very short time it’s been available according to a Samsung insider.

Still you might be thinking to yourself “ya but 100 million, I don’t know if that many ppl want a device with Samsung’s Touchwiz UI”, & you just might be right. Well here’s another twist to the story, a Samsung Galaxy S4 with a vanilla Android experience.
That’s right a Nexus style experience on the Galaxy S4 hardware. According to rumours going around at Google I/O Google & Samsung will announce just that at the event that begins today at 12pm sharp. If you can’t be at the event but you’d like to watch the live stream of the event you can do so here https://developers.google.com/events/io/ & find out for yourself if this rumour is true.
This would be great to have that kick ass hardware with a Nexus style/vanilla Android experience, it sure would leave the user with a much more acceptable amount of internal storage space albeit without all Samsung’s cool features.

Remember we heard talk before the Nexus 4 came out that possibly 5 companies would make Nexus devices? Well maybe it still could be true & we could very well see more than 1 vanilla Android phone this year.

What do you guys think, would you love to see a Galaxy S4 with vanilla Android & perhaps a few more phones with pure Android?
Let us know in the comments section below, we’d love to hear from you guys.

Is Google building a Nexus Phone themselves this time?

image

A few weeks ago we heard rumours of a couple new devices that Google might be bringing to the table. These were said to be the Google X Phone & Google X Tablet. Well seems there are a few more rumours about this project of Google’s.

It’s rumored that Google is building a Nexus type device with their other company Motorola. Now we’ve seen Nexus devices in the past but these were all built by companies not directly in Google control. This time we could get to see a Google Nexus Phone built actually by Google, well Google/Motorola. Now we’re hearing rumours that this very special Android device could possibly be announced at MWC in Barcelona in a few months.

Rumour also has it we might see this device be the device to showcase Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie on a edge to edge 5″ display. What could be more fitting for Google‚Äôs 5th Nexus Phone then one featuring the 5th full version of Android & on a 5″ display all built entirely by Google/Motorola, well nothing.
Take these rumours with a grain of salt because again these are just rumours, although we have seen a lot of rumors in the mobile industry that have been bang on. For now let’s keep our fingers crossed & pray to the tech gods that such a device is in the works.

Do you hope Google is finally taking the Nexus Device into its own hands, if so what would you like to see on this Google built device?

Is LG working on the Next Nexus Phone already?

image

LG Nexus 5

Rumour has it LG might be working on the Next Nexus device to have it ready in time for Google I/O. Now take this with a boulder of salt because as I see it working with LG again on such an important device seems like a terrible idea after such shortages of the Nexus 4.
Not only will the next-gen Nexus smartphone be the fifth model in the series, but it will also sport a 5-inch display, hence the Nexus 5 name will make sense for more than one solid reason. The display will obviously sport a Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution (440 PPI), which seems to be a display standard for high-end handsets this year, the all-new NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor, 2GB of RAM, 8/16GB of storage, 13-megapixel camera with LED flash and auto focus and a 3 megapixel front facing camera.

Wow those are some great specs & if true you can sure bet I’ll have one in my hands for more than just a demo.
What do you think of this rumour & the suspected specs?
